Introduction to Shopify''s 10 big changes: - PART 1

Shopify announced that it would be upgrading the platform in all aspects, which is the biggest upgrade ever made to the platform, including downward adjustment of developer commissions within the app shop, upgrading the platform version, and launching a new payment platform.

It is understood that in 2020, a total of over 450 million people spent money on Shopify and Shopify processed nearly $120 billion in merchandise transactions.

These are the main upgrades in Shopify

1. Online shop upgrade to version 2.0: This is the biggest upgrade ever made to the Shopify Liquid platform. The new upgraded version has a higher level of flexibility and customization to help merchants with their brand presentation, in addition to a new set of developer features including personalized shop pages, a news editor, and themed app extensions, among other features.

2, Shopify theme shop: Shopify theme shop will open on July 15, its built-in Online Store 2.0 features and will become the new standard theme for Shopify, which can provide merchants with more storefront creative options and improve efficiency.

3. Four major improvements to the Store API include: a new shopping cart feature that estimates product costs, taxes, and discounts, optimized for performance; the ability for merchants to set up subscriptions, reservations and directly integrated sales plans related to Shopify's local checkout; pricing for cross-border sales to provide a standard experience of pricing in different countries/regions based on the consumer's location; a local pickup feature that allows consumers to purchase products online and pick them up from their desired location. It is understood that the new shop API enhancements will be available on 1 July.

4. Reduced developer commissions in the app shop: Shopify has announced that it will reduce the share of revenue it charges developers. That is, as of August 1, developers will benefit from 100% of their first $1 million in revenue in the Shopify app shop. In addition, commissions for developers over $1 million will drop from 20% to 15%.

5, the launch of a new payment platform Payments Platform: the new platform can authorize payment providers to integrate third-party payment gateways into Shopify Checkout, enabling merchants to add more payment methods to the Shopify app. It is understood that last year alone, Shopify's partner payment providers processed over $65 billion in transactions for its merchants.
